Summer 2025 / Issue #004

This spring, our AAPI Placer County team worked to promote unity, cultural awareness, and community engagement through a diverse lineup of events centered on identity, heritage, and solidarity.

In April, we co-hosted a powerful film screening of KINTSUKUROI on the Sierra College campus, bringing together over 200 community members for an afternoon of storytelling and healing. The event offered a unique opportunity to explore themes of identity, trauma, and the beauty of repair—both personal and cultural. Later that month, we joined voices with over 100 organizations from across the state during AANHPI Advocacy Day on April 28, taking place at the California State Capitol. With passion and purpose, we stood alongside fellow advocates and met with legislators and staff to amplify the needs, rights, and stories of AAPI communities in policy spaces where representation matters most.

Our AAPI Walking Moms & Friends Group have met monthly since January to build connection, foster wellness, and provide a supportive space for dialogue and friendship among AAPI mothers and allies. These walks have become more than just a way to stay active—they are a meaningful ritual of community building and resilience.

May was a vibrant celebration of heritage and unity. At the Rocklin Heritage Faire on May 3, we engaged with attendees through cultural displays and activities. A week later, we brought families together at the AAPI Family Picnic—a joyful day of food, games, and intergenerational connection that highlighted the strength of community bonds.

In a meaningful demonstration of solidarity and shared history, the AAPI Placer County team also participated in the Juneteenth Celebration on June 21, honoring Black liberation and affirming the importance of cross-cultural allyship in the pursuit of equity and justice.

We are proud of our commitment to inclusion, storytelling, and advocacy, and deeply believe that our collective work will have a lasting impact. Thank you to all the individuals and organizations that connected with us at these various events – it is a joy to build and be in community with you.
